Egypt’s tourism revenue more than doubled over the past decade, reaching $15.3 billion in 2024, compared to $7.2 billion in 2014, according to a report issued by the Cabinet’s report.
The number of inbound tourists also saw a 59.6% increase, rising from 9.9 million in 2014 to 15.8 million in 2024. The country aims to attract 30 million tourists by 2032 at the latest.
Tourism contributed to an 8.2% growth in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, as previously stated by Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation.
The report highlighted various incentives aimed at encouraging tourism investment as part of Egypt’s National Tourism Strategy.
Among these measures is a new initiative launched by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) in October 2024, providing EGP 50 billion in funding from the Ministry of Finance, in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, to support the sector.
To streamline investment opportunities, the government is working on establishing an Investment Opportunities Bank, which will compile a comprehensive tourism investment map for both domestic and international promotion. As of January 2025, a total of 156 tourism investment opportunities had been listed on the investment map.
Egypt supports diverse tourism models, including Nile tourism, which is being developed to expand floating hotel capacity to 25,000 rooms by 2030.
In the field of medical tourism, Egypt has signed an agreement to establish its first medical and wellness resort, Naya Health Resort, marking the country's first dedicated medical tourism center. The agreement was finalized in January 2024.
Regarding yacht tourism, the report noted that Egypt has introduced a unified digital platform that now issues yacht visit approvals within just 30 minutes, compared to the previous process, which took 15 to 30 days.
Additionally, Egypt has extended the allowed stay for yacht visitors from one month to three months, further enhancing the sector’s appeal.
