The year 2021 was a strong year for the Ministry of International Cooperation (MoIC), which published a statement earlier today on its achievements and the multilateral development partnerships it developed throughout the year.

According to the MoIC, within the framework of the government’s 2030 vision, it has updated and laid out new features for future work with 8 multilateral development partners, including the UN, EBRD, USAid and several countries.

The statement included the ministry’s efforts to consolidate development cooperation relations with multilateral and bilateral development partners to maximize cooperation with development partners and international financing institutions in various national projects, and further develop Egypt’s 2030 vision.

Egypt and United Nations

The year 2021 saw the launch of a new strategic framework roadmap for 2023-2027 between Egypt and the United Nations (UN).

The agreement aims to support the state’s efforts to achieve economic and social development, in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. It also includes the participation of more than 50 representatives from 30 government agencies and 28 United Nations agencies.

The partnership focuses on several areas including the development of human capital through equal access to quality services, protection and social justice, sustainable economic development, promoting climate action and increasing the efficiency of natural resource management, and empowering women and girls.

The roadmap, currently being implemented, was prepared by Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation in partnership with the UN.

Minister of International Cooperation, Dr. Rania Al Mashat, met with representatives from the United Nations Development program to review the 3rd phase of Egypt’s Network for Integrated Development (ENID) project for 2022-2026 in November, and with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to discuss its role in supporting national development efforts towards achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030 in the Summer.

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Egypt

Al Mashat and her ministry worked with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to draft Egypt’s new country cooperation strategy for 2022/2027, with the finalized strategy expected to be adopted in early 2022.

Egypt’s new country strategy will be based on 3 areas; supporting government’s efforts towards comprehensive and sustainable economic growth; facilitating Egypt’s green transformation; and stimulating private sector’s role in the country’s development as well as enhance Egypt’s competitiveness.
