USA and MoIC sign financial grants worth $125M towards education & more

The aforementioned $125 million will be disturbed into several sectors, including $17 million to the education sector

Within the framework of strategic relations between Egypt and the USA, Minister of International Cooperation Dr.Rania Al Mashat has signed several financial grant agreements with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) worth $125 million.

In a statement, Al Mashat noted the importance of the relationship between the two countries, pointing out that the recently signed grants will be directed to various sectors including education, trade, agricultural and health.

Emphasizing Egypt’s leadership in green transformation and efforts towards climate change, Al Mashat stated that Egypt has taken several effective measures to shift towards renewable energy, implementing eco-friendly projects and initiatives, as well as expanding the amount of funding mechanisms for climate change efforts.

USA Ambassador, Jonathan Cohen, commented during the signing ceremony, stating that the new grants are part of the USA’s investment into Egypt, which reached $30 billion over the past 40 years, which has supported the supply of clean water and sewage services to 25 million Egyptians, elimination of Polio, building 2,000 schools, and providing 4,000 University scholarships.

Al Mashat also highlighted the partnership as encouraging private sector participation in development and increasing its role in various projects, by supporting small and medium-sized businesses, entrepreneurship, and promoting business.

Attending the signing were Khaled Abdel Ghaffar Minister of Higher Education, Neveen Al-Qabaj Minister of Social Solidarity, Director of the United States Agency for International Leslie Reid Development in Egypt, and President of the National Council for Women Maya Morsi.

The aforementioned $125 million will be disturbed into several sectors; $17 million to the education sector, $31 million for the Egyptian American Higher Education Initiative, $4 million for the American Egyptian Cooperation of Science and Technology, $13 million to improve the health sector, $27 million for economic governance, $5 million for agriculture and rural development, and $28 million to stimulate trade and investment in Egypt.
