Egypt’s manufacturing and extractive industries index fell by 5.85% month-on-month (MoM) to 102.72 (initial) in May from 109.10 (final) in April 2021, writes a new report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The index’s benchmark, which excludes crude oil and petroleum products, recorded an initial 116.84 in March from 104.09 in February.

The beverage industry index saw the largest increase, by 26.48% to 325.56 in May due to increased summer demand, jumping of previously recorded 257.40.

The electric appliances industry also saw positive growth, up by 12.01% MoM to 118.77, compared to 106.04 in April 2021, also due to increased market demand states CAPMAS.

Industrial indices that saw declines were the uncategorized machinery and equipment industry index which dipped 6.87% to 155.25 in May from 166.70 in April due to a drop in exports.

The paper manufacturing index retreated by 16.17% MoM to 59.79, compared to 71.32 in April.
