Petronefertiti, a subsidiary of South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company, has reported positive test results from the Lorcan-6 exploratory well in the North Gulf of Zeit area of Gabal El Zeit in Egypt’s Eastern Desert.
Initial well tests showed production rates of up to 1,500 barrels of crude oil and 8 million cubic feet of associated natural gas per day.
The discovery comes as Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources intensifies exploration and development activities to boost domestic oil and gas production.
The ministry's efforts include expanding drilling operations and capitalizing on promising opportunities within concession areas, in cooperation with investment partners, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), and South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company.
Exploration activities in the Petronefertiti concession are backed by investments from Dana Petroleum and Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC), supporting continued exploration and assessment of the area's hydrocarbon potential.
The Lorcan-6 well is expected to be brought online following the completion of testing and the necessary technical procedures.
Meanwhile, geological data and maps are being updated, and test results are being analyzed to identify potential drilling locations and further develop the area's petroleum resources.
These efforts aim to maximize resource recovery and support Egypt’s domestic oil and gas production.
