Egypt's Cabinet approved golden licenses for two new wind power projects with a combined capacity of 1,800 megawatts (MW) in the Red Sea Governorate and the Gulf of Suez on Wednesday, as part of the country's efforts to expand renewable energy generation through private-sector partnerships.
The first approval was granted to Shadwan Wind Power, an Egyptian joint-stock company operating under Investment Law No. 72 of 2017, to develop, construct, manage, operate, and maintain a 900 MW wind farm in Ras Shukeir, Red Sea Governorate.
The project will supply electricity to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) and is scheduled for completion by March 31, 2028.
According to the Cabinet, the project is expected to create approximately 2,500 jobs for engineers, workers, and technicians during construction, alongside 50 permanent positions during its 25-year operational period.
Priority will be given to workers from the Red Sea Governorate and neighboring areas. The project is also expected to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting Egypt's green energy transition.
The Cabinet also approved a golden license for Shokeir Wind Energy, an Egyptian joint-stock company, to develop, construct, manage, operate, and maintain a 900 MW wind power project in the Gulf of Suez under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model.
The project will sell its electricity output to EETC and is scheduled for completion by November 1, 2028.
It is expected to generate approximately 800 jobs during the 24-month construction phase, along with 25 permanent positions throughout its 25-year operational period.
The approvals form part of Egypt's efforts to support strategic energy projects, attract private-sector investment, accelerate sustainable development, and strengthen the national electricity grid.
