However, he noted that achieving these objectives has become more difficult than ever amid a growing number of conflicts worldwide.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly delivered a speech at the Leaders’ Meeting on “Partnership for Multilateral Action, Peace and Security,” held in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Madbouly said the international community shares the same fundamental goals: advancing peace and stability, supporting sustainable development, and upholding multilateralism and the principles of the UN Charter. However, he noted that achieving these objectives has become more difficult than ever amid a growing number of conflicts worldwide.
He stressed that poverty, inequality and persistent obstacles to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals remain serious barriers not only to prosperity but also to international stability. Joint efforts, he said, must therefore prioritise conflict prevention and resolution.
The prime minister warned that unilateral measures have too often become the initial response to potential conflicts, while the many benefits of diplomacy have been overlooked.
He added that the root causes of conflict—including poverty, inequality and underdevelopment—remain largely unaddressed. Madbouly called for the international financial system to be redirected towards greater fairness and to better reflect the interests and needs of the Global South.
He also emphasised that the multilateral international system must remain at the heart of these efforts, noting that the United Nations is uniquely positioned to provide the support needed to achieve shared objectives, provided it is adequately empowered to fulfil its mandate.
Madbouly urged the international community to seize every opportunity to restore momentum to multilateralism by providing the necessary resources, demonstrating political will and uniting behind common goals.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to multilateralism and stronger international cooperation, saying the country stands ready to work with all partners to ensure that multilateralism becomes not merely an aspiration, but an effective instrument for achieving peace, prosperity and dignity for all.
