Egypt’s manufacturing & extractive industries index drops 3.98% in October

The index for manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products reached 96.70 during October 2023 compared to 100.71 during September 2023 marking a drop of 3.98%, according to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

In the report, CAPMAS revealed that the index of chemical products increased by 4.23% in October to 76.56 from 73.45, while the index of wood and cork industries, excluding furniture, increased by 5.23% in October to 33.43 from 31.77 in September.

On the other hand, the index of electronics decreased by 1.73% in October to 110.56 from 112.51, while the index of the pharmaceutical, chemical and medicinal products decreased 2.65% in October to 112.44 from 115.50 in September.

CAPMAS also recently reported that Egypt's exports declined by 22% during the initial nine months of 2023, registering $30.8 billion compared to $39.4 billion in the same period in 2022.

CAPMAS reported that Egyptian imports saw a 21% yearly decrease, amounting to $58.5 billion, in contrast to $74 billion for the same period in 2022.
