ENR sign agreements to develop railway fields on TransMEA sidelines

ENR signed a MOU with GTS Company, a subsidiary of the Spanish CBS Group to establish a factory for signaling devices

Egyptian National Railways (ENR) signed a terms and conditions agreement and 2 memorandums of understanding (MOU) to develop the railway field, this came on the sidelines of the Traffic Fair and Forum for the Middle East and Africa Region (TransMEA 2023).

ENR signed a terms and conditions agreement with National Egyptian Railway Industries Company (NERIC) to localize and manufacture 500 railroad cars, including maintenance and spare parts, for a period of 15 years as an initial phase.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Minister of Transport, Kamel Al Wazir. Within the framework of these agreement, NERIC will cooperate with international company to manufacture the railroad cars. Additionally, the localization rate of the industry should reach 80% within NERIC’s factory.

ENR signed a MOU with GTS Company, a subsidiary of the Spanish CBS Group to establish a factory for signaling devices.

In addition to that, ENR also signed a MOU with Skoda to discuss increasing cooperation in the field of management and operation of mobile unit maintenance workshops.

The agreements came within the framework of implementing the directives of the Egyptian President Abdelfattah El Sisi to localize the transport industry in Egypt.

Recently, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced Egypt’s interest in partnering with the private sector in the transportation sector, stressing that the government is keen for the private sector to manage and operate projects after they are completed. Madbouly said that Egypt plans to offer private companies contracts to manage and run airports.
