Egypt signed a total of 10 agreements with local and international companies across the electric traction field at the TransMea 2022 conference on Monday.

The Egyptian Minister of Transport, Kamel El Wazir witnessed the signing of 4 contracts, 5 memorandums of understanding (MoU), and 1 framework agreement between the National Authority for Tunnels and international and local alliances and companies.

The agreements vary from covering Cairo Metro projects, working on the fifth phase of the electric light rail train, to designing and supplying agreements for the electric high-speed rail.

El Wazir said that the cooperation with international companies will reach broader horizons during the coming period, explaining that the Ministry of Transport, in cooperation with international companies, is preparing an integrated plan on the localization of the industries in which these companies operate in the Egyptian market.

Earlier today, also on the sidelines of TransMea, the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) signed a terms and conditions agreement with National Egyptian Railway Industries Company (NERIC) to localize and manufacture 500 railroad cars, including maintenance and spare parts, for a period of 15 years as an initial phase.

ENR also signed a MOU with GTS Company, a subsidiary of the Spanish CBS Group to establish a factory for signaling devices.

In addition to that, ENR also signed a MOU with Skoda to discuss increasing cooperation in the field of management and operation of mobile unit maintenance workshops.
