The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) has a new boss. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced on Thursday that Rami El Dokany has been named the stock exchange’s new head for a one-year term. The PM also revealed Heba El Serafi as the new vice chairperson of the EGX.

El Dokany takes over the role of executive chair after previous EGX head Mohamed Farid was tapped to be acting chairman of the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA).

El Serafi previously served as the stock exchange’s assistant chairman, where she led on disclosure and corporate governance.

The new EGX head has served as the secretary-general of the Arab Federation of Capital Markets (AFCM) since 2019, was a part-time consultant to the World Bank for almost 7 years, and was founder and CEO of Pride Capital, a venture capital and early-stage fund focusing on Fintech.

There has been a lot of movement in the public sector lately, including Farid’s move to the FRA, a recent cabinet shuffle which introduced 13 new ministers, as well as the sudden resignation of CBE chief Tarek Amer and the subsequent appointment of UMS chairman Hassan Abdalla as the new acting CBE head.

Abdalla had his first meeting with current and former heads of banks late last week, in which he announced his new advisors former president of the Commercial International Bank (CIB), and Mohamed Naguib, the former head of the saib Bank.
