Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Central Bank of Egypt Governor Hassan Abdalla as part of the government’s regular coordination with the central bank to review priority economic issues and discuss measures to strengthen financial and monetary stability.
The meeting reviewed several areas related to Egypt’s upcoming economic reforms, including joint efforts to develop a national economic transformation program. The two officials also assessed the economy’s current performance, with a particular focus on coordinated efforts to curb inflation and increase foreign currency inflows.
They emphasized the importance of maintaining adequate foreign exchange reserves to secure the country’s strategic needs for essential goods. The government and the central bank are also continuing to coordinate efforts to strengthen strategic commodity reserves.
During the meeting, Abdalla discussed his role as head of Egypt’s delegation to the 48th annual meetings of the Association of African Central Banks, hosted by the Central Bank of Kenya in Nairobi from September 13 to 18, 2026. The meetings brought together governors from 34 of the association’s 41 member central banks, representing 53 African countries.
Abdalla also participated in the 14th meeting of the Board of Governors of central banks participating in the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System, held in Nairobi on the sidelines of the association’s annual meetings.
He said Egypt’s participation reflects its commitment to strengthening regional banking ties and expanding economic and trade cooperation with African countries.
Abdalla also attended a high-level conference on the use of artificial intelligence in central banking, organized by the Central Bank of Kenya in Nairobi to mark its 60th anniversary.
Discussions focused on three main areas: the use of AI in monetary policy and financial stability, the development of banking supervision and financial integrity, and AI governance and risk management. The conference also examined the potential of AI to process large and diverse datasets and support economic forecasting.
