British energy company BP has started production from the Fayoum 4 gas well in the West Nile Delta area, contributing around 80 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day, according to a government statement.

The start of production comes as part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to attract investments, accelerate field development, and increase domestic gas output. BP supported the fast-tracking of the natural gas development and production project while maximizing the use of existing infrastructure and facilities.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry of Petroleum said BP successfully brought the Fayoum 4 well online around two years ahead of the original schedule, following accelerated project execution and the utilization of existing offshore infrastructure.

BP conducted a successful exploration campaign in 2025, which led to the discovery of the Fayoum well. The company then moved forward with development activities and connected production to the West Nile Delta gas processing facilities.

To maximize the field’s potential, BP also drilled a sidetrack well to access new Messinian reservoir layers within the West Nile Delta concession, at depths of nearly 3,000 meters. The approach eliminated the need for drilling a separate well or building new subsea infrastructure, helping reduce the time required to begin production and unlock additional resources.

The well’s production was connected to the West Nile Delta gas processing facilities through the Giza–Fayoum pipeline, using innovative engineering solutions to overcome technical challenges and leverage existing offshore infrastructure. This enabled the company to bring additional gas volumes into production faster.

Nader Zaki, BP’s Regional President for the Middle East and North Africa, said the start of production from Fayoum 4 reflects the company’s continued support for the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to accelerate development activities, maximize existing infrastructure, and apply advanced technologies to increase Egypt’s domestic natural gas production.

The West Nile Delta region includes several offshore gas fields located in Egyptian waters, within the North Alexandria and West Mediterranean Deepwater concessions. BP operates the West Nile Delta facilities with an 82.75% stake, while Harbour Energy holds the remaining 17.25%.
