Egypt’s chemical and fertilizer exports rose to approximately $7.07 billion between January and July 2026, up from $5.63 billion during the same period in 2025, according to the Chemical and Fertilizers Export Council.

The sector recorded an increase of $1.43 billion, representing year-on-year growth of 25%, based on data from the General Organization for Export and Import Control.

Chemicals and fertilizers remained Egypt’s leading non-oil export sector, accounting for approximately 23.5% of the country’s total non-oil exports during the first seven months of the year. This performance reflects the strength and diversity of the sector’s production base, as well as its ability to compete and expand across international markets.

Khaled Aboul Makarem, chairman of the council, attributed the increase to the strong performance of several subsectors, led by petrochemicals. Petrochemical exports surged by approximately 85% to $1.78 billion.

Exports of organic chemicals increased by 44%, inorganic chemicals by 30%, and detergents by 29%, while fertilizer and plastic exports also maintained their growth momentum.

Aboul Makarem said the results reflected the success of efforts to diversify products and export destinations, noting significant growth across several key and emerging markets, particularly in Asia, the European Union, and the United States.

He added that the figures demonstrated the sector’s resilience and its ability to capitalize on opportunities in global markets despite ongoing shifts in international trade.

Mohamed Maguid, executive director of the council, said the European Union remained the sector’s largest export market, with shipments valued at approximately $2.66 billion, marking 17% growth.

Exports to non-Arab Asian markets jumped by 76% to around $1.72 billion, while exports to the United States increased by nearly 70%.
