El-Sisi renews Hassan Abdalla’s term as acting CBE governor for one year

The renewal will see Abdalla continue to lead the CBE and oversee monetary policy and measures aimed at supporting economic stability and strengthening the efficiency of Egypt’s banking sector.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued a presidential decree to renew Hassan Abdalla’s appointment as Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) for another year, effective from August 18, 2026.

The renewal will see Abdalla continue to lead the CBE and oversee monetary policy and measures aimed at supporting economic stability and strengthening the efficiency of Egypt’s banking sector.

Abdalla was first appointed Acting Governor of the CBE in August 2022, succeeding Tarek Amer, and has since led monetary policy through a period marked by significant domestic and global economic and financial challenges.

The CBE governor’s responsibilities include overseeing monetary policy, maintaining price and banking-system stability, safeguarding the financial sector, and supporting the economy’s resilience to global economic developments
