Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Ahmed Rustom, met Tuesday with Eric Oeschlan, Director of the Cairo Office of the International Labour Organization, to explore ways to strengthen cooperation in development policies, with a focus on decent job creation, skills development, and support for startups.
During the meeting, Rustom emphasized the strength of the partnership with the International Labour Organization, noting that it is built on a shared vision aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth and expanding employment opportunities in collaboration with the private sector.
He stressed that such cooperation contributes directly to improving living standards and achieving comprehensive development goals.
The minister highlighted that ongoing geopolitical tensions and global economic uncertainty are placing additional pressure on emerging economies, requiring more flexible and proactive policy responses.
In this context, he underscored that the Egyptian government continues to implement its economic reform agenda, focused on strengthening economic resilience and enhancing the ability to absorb external shocks, drawing lessons from previous global crises.
He added that Egypt is prioritizing macroeconomic stability, while continuing to support key productive sectors, particularly agriculture and industry. The government is also pursuing proactive measures to contain inflation and ensure the availability of essential resources, while closely studying international best practices to improve the competitiveness of the national economy.
Rustom further reaffirmed that the private sector remains a central pillar in achieving sustained economic stability and growth.
For his part, Oeschlan praised Egypt’s policy measures aimed at mitigating the impact of ongoing global and regional challenges, noting that these efforts reflect the state’s commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining labour market stability.
He reiterated the International Labour Organization’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s national employment strategies through strategic partnerships focused on youth inclusion, entrepreneurship development, and labour policy reform.
He also highlighted increasing attention to “green jobs” and digital transformation as key priorities aligned with the evolving needs of the Egyptian economy and global labour market trends.
