Egypt has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Qatar to enhance bilateral cooperation in the sale and import of liquefied natural gas (LNG), along with other energy-related areas.

Under the agreement, the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and QatarEnergy signed the executive framework for supplying a number of Qatari LNG cargoes, to be delivered to the ports of Ain Sokhna and Damietta, in line with the agreement concluded between the two sides.

The MoU represents a key step toward diversifying natural gas supply sources and expanding cooperation on LNG shipments, as part of Egypt’s strategy to secure energy needs through multiple supply channels, while continuing efforts to boost domestic production.

This approach aims to create added value and reinforce Egypt’s role as a regional hub for gas trading.

QatarEnergy’s activities in Egypt are primarily focused on the Mediterranean Sea, where it currently operates in six offshore blocks.

The company also plans to inject new investments over the next five years and drill several exploratory wells in cooperation with leading global energy companies.
