President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the ceremony marking the installation of the containment structure for the first reactor unit at the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, an important milestone in the construction of the facility, which aims to generate electricity safely and sustainably.

During the ceremony, President Putin highlighted the significance of the project, noting that the first reactor unit alone will add 35,000 kilowatts of electricity to Egypt’s power grid.

He emphasized that the Dabaa plant represents a strategic milestone in Egypt’s transition toward clean and sustainable energy, and reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s development priorities.

Putin added that bilateral relations are advancing steadily across multiple fields, stressing that trade between Egypt and Russia has grown by one-third compared to last year, reflecting the strength and momentum of economic ties. “Our relations will continue to advance for the benefit of both our peoples,” he said.

President El-Sisi described the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant as one of Egypt’s most significant national projects, reflecting the country’s long-term vision for energy security and sustainable development.

He affirmed that Egypt remains determined to move forward with construction, modernization, and national development despite regional and global challenges.

El-Sisi also noted that the ongoing construction of the plant has already created thousands of job opportunities, contributing to local economic growth and supporting communities around the project site.

“Through this partnership, we are laying the foundations for a future of progress and prosperity for the Egyptian people,” he said.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson for the Presidency, stated that the event coincides with Egypt’s celebration of the fifth annual Nuclear Energy Day, held every year on 19 November.

The occasion commemorates the signing of the intergovernmental agreement between Egypt and the Russian Federation to build and operate the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, and is considered a symbolic date marking the launch of Egypt’s peaceful nuclear program.
