Grand Egyptian Museum expected to welcome 15,000 visitors daily | Tourism Minister

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy affirmed that the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will serve as a major attraction and a key driver for the growth of Egypt’s tourism sector in the coming period, noting that the museum is expected to attract around 5 million visitors annually following its historic inauguration today.
 
Speaking to reporters ahead of the global opening ceremony, Fathy explained that the museum is projected to welcome 15,000 visitors daily, marking a significant boost to Egypt’s tourism industry. 
 
He added that during the museum’s trial operation phase, visitor numbers reached nearly 5,000 per day, with expectations for a considerable increase post-inauguration.
 
Fathy also invited Egyptians to visit the museum and enjoy the legacy of their ancestors, stressing that ticket prices remain affordable for all.
 
He highlighted that the Grand Egyptian Museum stands as the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization, Ancient Egypt, extending over 490,000 square meters. 
 
The museum features a main entrance covering 7,000 square meters that houses the monumental statue of King Ramses II, and includes thousands of artifacts narrating Egypt’s history across millennia.
 
The museum also encompasses 12 main exhibition halls with a total area of 18,000 square meters, temporary exhibition halls of 1,700 square meters, and a dedicated area of 7,500 square meters for displaying more than 5,000 artifacts of King Tutankhamun, all showcased together for the first time. In addition, it features a Children’s Museum spanning 5,000 square meters.
