President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced on Sunday that Egypt will host an international conference in November dedicated to the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, calling on Egyptians to actively contribute to the rebuilding efforts as an expression of solidarity and shared responsibility toward the Palestinian people.
The President tasked Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly with coordinating efforts between government institutions, civil society, and relevant stakeholders to establish a national mechanism for citizen contributions and donations aimed at financing Gaza’s reconstruction.
Speaking during the 42nd educational symposium organized by the Armed Forces to mark the 52nd anniversary of the October War victory, El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts over the past two years to mediate a ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid, and work toward the release of hostages, a process that culminated in the recent ceasefire agreement and the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit.
El-Sisi also extended his appreciation to U.S. President Donald Trump for supporting Egypt’s mediation efforts to end the war.
Economic Context and National Priorities
On the domestic front, the President addressed the economic challenges Egypt has faced in recent years, emphasizing the government’s commitment to implementing structural reforms aimed at long-term stability rather than short-term relief. He praised the patience and resilience of Egyptian citizens, reaffirming that the current measures are part of a broader plan to achieve sustainable growth and fiscal balance.
“The state studies every decision carefully and acts decisively whenever public interest requires it,” El-Sisi said, underscoring the importance of media and the arts in promoting awareness and countering misinformation.
The President added that he fully understands the pressures faced by citizens, stressing that overcoming the current phase will require collective effort, discipline, and national unity.
Regional Cooperation and Malaysian Partnership
The announcement follows a phone call between President El-Sisi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday, during which both leaders discussed preparations for the conference and Malaysia’s intention to participate in Gaza’s reconstruction efforts.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency, Prime Minister Anwar expressed Malaysia’s readiness to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza, in full coordination with Egypt. He also congratulated President El-Sisi on Egypt’s pivotal role in achieving the ceasefire and organizing the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, describing Egypt’s efforts as “a historic success.”
Presidential spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that the two leaders reviewed the outcomes of the peace summit and the progress of implementing the first phase of President Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza.
President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Palestinian statehood, noting that Cairo and Kuala Lumpur share identical views on the need to launch a credible political process that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in line with international resolutions, a move he described as essential for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
The upcoming conference in Cairo is expected to draw participation from regional and international partners, as Egypt positions itself at the center of post-war reconstruction efforts and economic recovery for Gaza.
