President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has issued a republican decree reappointing Hassan Abdalla as Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) for an additional one-year term, effective from August 18, 2025, until August 17, 2026.
Abdalla has held a distinguished career in Egypt’s financial and business sectors. He previously served as a member of the CBE’s Board of Directors for eight years and was a board member of the Egyptian Exchange. His international experience includes chairing the Union of Arab and French Banks in Hong Kong, as well as serving on the boards of the Institute of International Finance (IIF), the London Stock Exchange Africa Advisory Group (LAAG), the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), and the Emerging Markets Advisory Council. He is also the founder and Chairman of the “Wafaa’ Le Misr” Foundation.
In May 2021, Abdalla was appointed Chairman of the United Media Services Company. Prior to that, he held leadership roles at the Arab African International Bank, where he began his career in 1982 and later served as CEO and Vice Chairman.
Beyond the banking sector, Abdalla has been deeply involved in institutional development. He was a founding member of the Egyptian National Competitiveness Council, founder and Chairman of the Egyptian Junior Business Association (EJB), and a board member of the Egyptian Banking Institute.
Alongside his professional career, Abdalla has a strong academic background. He taught for nearly 30 years at the American University in Cairo (AUC) and served on the Strategic Advisory Board of AUC’s School of Business.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (1982) and an MBA (1992), both from the American University in Cairo.
