Egypt’s unemployment rate drops to 6.1% in Q2 2025

Egypt’s unemployment rate fell to 6.1% in the second quarter of 2025, down by 0.2% compared to the previous quarter, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
 
The size of the labor force, which includes both employed and unemployed individuals, rose to 33.614 million, an increase of 0.5% from the previous quarter. This was mainly driven by an additional 223,000 employed individuals and a decline of 57,000 unemployed individuals.
 
The number of unemployed stood at 2.054 million, including 932,000 men and 1.122 million women, marking a 2.7% decrease from the prior quarter. The unemployment rate dropped to 3.5% among men and 15.8% among women.
 
Meanwhile, total employment reached 31.559 million, up 0.7% quarter-on-quarter.
 
A large proportion (78.2%) of the unemployed are holders of intermediate, above-intermediate, or university degrees. University graduates and above represent the highest share at 44.8%.
 
In terms of economic activities, agriculture and fishing absorbed the largest share of workers at 21.3%, followed by wholesale and retail trade (16%), manufacturing (13.1%), and construction (11.5%).
