Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, announced that Egypt currently operates more than 22 social protection programs, with a combined annual budget of approximately EGP 635 billion.
Of these, 13 programs are implemented by the Ministry of Social Solidarity, reflecting the state’s growing commitment to supporting vulnerable citizens.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 10-year anniversary of the Takaful and Karama conditional cash transfer program, the Prime Minister revealed that the program’s budget will increase to EGP 54 billion in the upcoming fiscal year. He highlighted that this amount is nearly equal to the total spending on all cash support programs between 2011 and 2017 combined.
Madbouly recalled that when Takaful and Karama was first launched, it served fewer than two million beneficiaries at a cost of less than EGP 5 billion. Today, the program’s allocation has reached around EGP 41 billion for the current fiscal year, up from EGP 24 billion the previous year.
In addition, the Prime Minister announced that the Ministry of Social Solidarity is preparing to launch an integrated strategic system for economic empowerment targeting families enrolled in the Takaful and Karama program.
The initiative aims to improve living standards and boost household incomes through a starting fund of EGP 10 billion, which will gradually increase to support projects and initiatives designed for the country’s most vulnerable families.
