Egypt & Spain elevate bilateral relations to strategic partnership

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez signed a joint declaration, officially upgrading Egypt-Spain relations to the level of a strategic partnership.

 This announcement followed high-level discussions between the two leaders at the Spanish government headquarters in Madrid.

During the visit, President El-Sisi and Prime Minister Sánchez oversaw the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening cooperation between Egypt and Spain across multiple sectors.

One of the key agreements focused on migration cooperation. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Badr Abdel Aaty, and Spanish Minister of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, Elma Saiz Delgado, signed an MoU on Circular Migration.

This agreement seeks to facilitate and regulate labor mobility between the two countries, enhancing employment opportunities while ensuring an organized migration framework.

Economic and trade ties were also reinforced through an MoU on economic, trade, industrial, and technical cooperation, signed by Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan El-Khatib, and Spain’s Minister of Economy, Trade, and Business, Carlos Cuerpo. This agreement is expected to enhance commercial collaboration and boost investment flows between the two nations.

In the tourism sector, an MoU on tourism cooperation was signed between Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and Spain’s Ministry of Industry and Tourism. The agreement, signed by Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty and Spanish Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, aims to promote joint initiatives in tourism development, leveraging both countries' rich cultural and historical assets.

Infrastructure and transportation were also key areas of cooperation. Egyptian Minister of Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, and Spanish Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, signed an MoU on infrastructure and transport development, focusing on enhancing transportation networks, logistics, and infrastructure projects that benefit both nations.

Beyond bilateral relations, the two countries committed to supporting peace and development in Africa. Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty and Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, signed a joint declaration aimed at fostering stability, sustainable development, and regional cooperation across the African continent.
