Egypt and Tajikistan strengthened their economic and development partnerships through the third session of the Egypt-Tajikistan Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation, chaired by Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rania Al-Mashat, and Tajikistan’s Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Zavqi Zavqizoda. This meeting follows previous sessions held in 2009 and 2019, marking a significant step in enhancing relations between the two countries.

During the session, the ministers held bilateral talks to explore ways to deepen cooperation, emphasizing the importance of regular committee meetings to accelerate development and foster stronger ties. Al-Mashat highlighted the significant progress in relations under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s leadership, particularly following the 2022 visit of Tajikistan’s president to Egypt, where constructive discussions were held with President El-Sisi.

The session resulted in the signing of three major agreements. A memorandum of understanding was established between the two nations to enhance trade, economic partnerships, and the exchange of expertise in macroeconomic forecasting, digital economy initiatives, and regional economic integration.

A joint work plan was signed between Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones and Tajikistan’s Tajinvest for 2024-2025, focusing on improving investor services and promoting investment opportunities.

Additionally, a customs cooperation agreement was finalized to facilitate trade and improve customs procedures through information exchange and mutual assistance. These agreements were complemented by the protocol for the third session, which outlined 17 priority areas for development, including trade, investment, housing, environment, agriculture, health, education, tourism, and renewable energy.

Discussions during the session also emphasized opportunities for Tajik companies to invest in Egypt, particularly in food industries, pharmaceuticals, tourism, construction, furniture, and textiles. Both sides explored measures to increase trade and attract investments, focusing on industrial collaboration, renewable energy, and free economic zones.
