The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, is set to issue foreign currency-denominated treasury bills worth $900 million on Monday, Dec. 2.

According to an announcement on the CBE’s official website, these treasury bills will have a 364-day maturity period, set to mature on December 2, 2025.

Treasury bills are short-term government borrowing instruments issued by the Ministry of Finance with maturities of 91, 182, 273, and 364 days.

On November 11, the CBE sold foreign currency-denominated treasury bills worth $1.574 billion after accepting bids from 21 institutions at an average yield of 4.498%.

Moreover, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank decided, during its meeting on November 21, 2024, to keep the overnight deposit, lending, and main operation rates unchanged at 27.25%, 28.25%, and 27.75%, respectively. The credit and discount rate was also maintained at 27.75%. This decision reflects the latest global and local developments since the committee’s previous meeting.

The CBE regularly issues treasury bills and bonds in both local and foreign currencies on behalf of the Ministry of Finance to finance the state budget deficit.
