Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly welcomed KOICA President Chang Wonsam to Egypt, marking the first visit by a KOICA leader since 2009. During the meeting, the two sides discussed expanding bilateral cooperation, with Egypt now managing a $100 million development portfolio supported by KOICA.
The talks emphasized the strategic partnership between the two nations, highlighting Korea's designation of Egypt as one of its five priority partners for official development assistance. Prime Minister Madbouly praised the collaboration as a model for fruitful partnerships and applauded the launch of the second phase of a project to link education with industry at Beni Suef Technological University, valued at $8 million.
Minister of Planning Rania Al-Mashat expressed enthusiasm for deepening cooperation in green energy, advanced technology, and infrastructure development. She also highlighted the potential for Korean private sector involvement in Egypt, particularly in public-private partnership initiatives aligned with Vision 2030.
President Chang commended Egypt’s economic resilience and its role as a regional leader. He also announced KOICA’s plans to implement six new projects in Egypt in 2024, focusing on climate action, economic empowerment, and knowledge exchange.
Both sides affirmed their commitment to strengthening ties, with a focus on sustainable development and regional cooperation, as Egypt continues to be a central partner in Korea’s development strategy for Africa.
