Malaysian PM stresses strategic cooperation with Egypt, focuses on new investment frontiers

The Malaysian leader praised Egypt's position as a significant regional power, both in the Arab world and Africa, noting that the country offers vast potential for investment in multiple sectors.

During a roundtable meeting in Cairo, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the strong and historic ties between Egypt and Malaysia. He expressed Malaysia’s eagerness to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in key sectors such as trade, industry, and investment. Ibrahim also emphasized that Egypt’s favorable investment climate makes it an ideal partner for Malaysia, with both nations exploring opportunities in emerging fields like digital transformation, energy, and semiconductor production.

Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan Al-Khateeb, welcomed the visit as an important step in advancing the economic partnership between the two countries. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to becoming a regional hub for exports and discussed the country’s proactive efforts in creating a business-friendly environment, including reforms in taxation, finance, and trade policies.
 
Al-Khateeb further emphasized the opportunities available for Malaysian businesses in Egypt, pointing out Egypt’s strategic location, skilled workforce, and competitive wages. He also outlined Egypt’s role as a gateway for Malaysian products to the broader African market, with several free trade agreements enhancing Egypt’s appeal.
 
In a bilateral meeting on the sidelines, Al-Khateeb and his Malaysian counterpart, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, agreed to focus on expanding existing projects and discussed potential collaboration in the semiconductor industry. The two ministers also agreed to activate the Egyptian-Malaysian Joint Committee early next year to strengthen investment and trade cooperation.
