Egypt officially joined the Blue Partnership Agreement during the COP28 conference in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a move aimed at fostering a sustainable blue economy.

The Blue Mediterranean Partnership, backed by Spain, Sweden, and the EU with key roles played by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), serves as a collaborative platform for countries and financial institutions.

Minister of International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, emphasized the significance of this milestone, highlighting its role in safeguarding marine biodiversity and addressing climate change impacts.

This agreement aligns with Egypt's commitment to the climate cause and emphasizes multilateral cooperation to stimulate sustainable blue economy practices.

The Blue Partnership Document encompasses various focus areas, such as reducing plastic waste, promoting sustainable marine food systems, advancing marine tourism, fostering sustainable maritime transport, and exploring renewable marine energy.

The initiative, originating from the Union for the Mediterranean's vision, signals a collective effort to implement blue economy projects in the southern Mediterranean, involving European financing institutions.

Egypt's active participation in this partnership underlines its dedication to climate adaptation and the transition from commitments to tangible actions.
