PED Ministry training arm NIGSD discusses governance and sustainable development indicators

The report relies on official and non-official sources of data, which include data from international institutions such as the World Bank

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development’s training arm, the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), held an awareness session to discuss reports focused on tracking and reviewing the progress made in the 17 sustainable development goals 2030 and their goals.

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Institute, explained that the convening of that session came intending to track changes in Egypt's status and position about various indicators to enhance global competitiveness and the sustainability of its economic performance.

The report relies on official and non-official sources of data, which include data from international institutions such as the World Bank, the World Health Organization, the International Labor Organization, and other institutions, as well as data from household surveys and civil society organizations.

For her part, Dr. Sherifa El-Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD, explained that although the report's sustainable development indicator is not official, it is supported by the United Nations Statistics Division as a complement to and supportive of the official measurement process.

El-Sherif added that the report helps in enabling countries to know their strengths and weaknesses, and thus setting priorities for action to improve the values ​​of the indicators mentioned in the report.

The session discussed several important issues, the most prominent of which are Egypt's position in the sustainable development report, Egypt's classification in governance indicators, in addition to discussing the state's efforts in the field of strengthening governance that help to strengthen the state's governance position and also the challenges facing the state in this regard.
