Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Hani Sewilam has signed 3 agreements with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) representative in Egypt Nasredin Hag. These agreements are funded by the governments of Netherlands and Japan.
The first project is the second phase of the land and water productivity monitoring project by remote sensing, in partnership with the government of the Netherlands.
The second project aims to work to enhance water productivity in agriculture, in partnership with the government of Japan.
The third project aims to modernize irrigation technologies to improve the livelihoods of small farmers in Upper Egypt, in partnership with government of the Netherlands.
Minister Sewilam stated that the three projects will be implemented in cooperation with a wide range of national and international stakeholders, supporting Egypt’s efforts to modernize irrigation systems, enhance water productivity in agriculture, improve food security, increase crop productivity, increase farmers' incomes, and support Egypt's 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy and the National Water Resources Plan (2017-2037).
