Egypt's Minister of Public Enterprise, Dr. Mahmoud Essmat, received a report on the performance of the metal industries sector in the past months.
The report outlined the steps taken towards the actual implementation of the state's policy document, as well as the development and modernization of the sector, increasing production and quality, and engaging the private sector.
The report also highlighted the details of the new projects in several pieces of information.
1- The establishment of a new aluminum company in Safaga is underway, and the Red Sea Governorate is being addressed to allocate the necessary land for the project and undertake special contracting procedures for an area of 650 acres.
2- An agreement is currently being reached with Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA), which has the highest aluminum production in the region, to establish a partnership for the project. Discussions are currently underway on electricity prices, the percentage of participation, and increasing the production capacity of the new factory from 300,000 to 600,000 tonnes.
3- The ministry is working on the development of the aluminum factory in Nag Hammadi and increasing its production capacity by 100,000 tonnes per year. There are negotiations with some international companies to inject the necessary investments for this, including the company that supplies the raw material needed for aluminum production (alumina).
4- Work is underway to establish the Bauxite Refinery project to provide the raw material necessary for the industry, with joint Egyptian-Arab investment.
5- A memorandum of understanding has been signed with a specialized company in the field of manufacturing wind power generators, including the establishment of a company for the maintenance of generating units and the manufacture of columns and mounts for turbines.
6- In the field of non-welded pipes necessary for strategic industries, which are being introduced for the first time in Egypt, the development plan for Nasr Pipes Company includes the addition of a new production line for non-welded pipes in cooperation with a specialized international company in this industry.
7- The development of the ceramics and chinaware company is underway, as well as the conversion of the ceramic factory into porcelain, and the disposal of stagnant inventory.
The report on the performance of Egypt's metal industries sector demonstrates a significant and promising step towards achieving the state's policy document.
The steps taken to engage the private sector and increase production and quality reflect the country's commitment to economic development. The establishment of new aluminum and bauxite refineries, the signing of a memorandum of understanding for wind power generators, and the development of non-welded pipes are all examples of the country's efforts to diversify its economy and attract foreign investment.
