The Suez Canal Economic Zone's President, Walid Gamal El Din, has stated that since the establishment of the economic zone, Sinai has been one of the most important locations the zone has worked to develop and enhance as part of the Egyptian state's strategy to achieve desired development within the Sinai Peninsula, provide employment opportunities for the youth of Sinai, and implement national projects that will promote such development.
This has been achieved through the development of seaports and industrial areas, and attracting new investments to the areas within the North and South Sinai governorates.
Gamal El Din also added that the economic authority's vision is based on several projects and investments that serve the people of Sinai, including the ongoing work to develop the port of Arish in implementation of the political leadership's directives to optimally benefit from the port's unique location, increase Egyptian exports of Sinai products to foreign markets, and restore the port's strategic role after its reactivation in 2021 thanks to the efforts of our armed forces to restore security and stability in North Sinai.
This has greatly contributed to the acceleration of development operations and the implementation of new and developed maritime berths in coordination with the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, the Suez Canal Authority, and national contracting companies to increase port efficiency and optimally utilize its strategic geographic location overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and close proximity to foreign markets.
He pointed out that the development and work taking place within the port of Arish coincides with an increase in ship traffic and shipping of Sinai products for export, as well as the benefit of its proximity to some neighboring countries to export building materials to contribute to their reconstruction. Additionally, the port has played a significant role in receiving humanitarian aid ships to Syria and Turkey, where the first roll-on/roll-off ship was received on the new commercial quay after the trial operation to ship aid.
The Suez Canal Economic Zone's development efforts in the Sinai Peninsula are a critical component of Egypt's economic strategy to attract investment, create jobs, and promote sustainable growth.
The establishment of the economic zone in 2015 has facilitated the development of a range of new infrastructure projects, including the expansion of seaports and the creation of new industrial zones, providing significant opportunities for investors and businesses to establish themselves in the region.
