The COVID-19 pandemic is a wake-up call for multilateral cooperation, as it calls for a co-operative, transparent, evidence-based and coordinated global response, writes a statement by the Ministry of International Cooperation (MoIC) as it unveiled its  2021 annual report titled, “Engaging for Impact Towards Our Common Future: International Partnerships for Sustainable Development.”

The MoIC secured $10.27 billion in development financing in 2021, including over $8.75 billion in financing for sovereign projects and $1.57 billion in support of the private sector, explained the report.

Highlighting the Ministry’s country-led multi-stakeholder engagement framework, the report sheds a light on the human-centric impact of development financing that addresses development challenges by strengthening coordinated actions across the inclusive-green-digital nexus.

In line with Egypt's Vision 2030, in 2021, $2.37 billion was dedicated towards social sustainability through several projects in multiple sectors including health, education, and agriculture.

The MoIC’s current portfolio in regards to Egypt’s sustainable development goals’ strategy (ODA-SDG) includes 372 projects in various sectors with a total value of $26.5 billion.

These are mostly being directed to achieve Goal 9 — Industry, innovation, and infrastructure — with a budget of $5.9 billion in development financing, constituting 22.3 percent of the total current portfolio.

Within the report, ODA-SDG mapping is visualized in multiple graphs, allowing users to easier track the progress of projects being implemented for each of the SDGs.
