Egypt’s tourism sector is continuing its expansion, supported by rising visitor numbers, growing hotel capacity and positive outlooks from international institutions despite regional challenges.

The number of hotels under construction in Egypt increased to 185 properties with around 46,000 rooms in 2026, up from 143 hotels with 33,900 rooms in 2025, according to data from W Hospitality Group.

The growth reflects a steady increase in Egypt’s hotel development pipeline, which has expanded from 51 hotels with 15,200 rooms in 2019 to its current levels, driven by rising demand and new tourism investments.

Tourism inflows have also remained resilient. Egypt welcomed 12.7 million tourists between January and August 2026, compared with 12.2 million during the same period in 2025, while tourism revenues increased to $12 billion from $11.8 billion.

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) expects Egypt’s tourism and travel sector to grow by 3% in 2026, with the sector’s contribution to GDP projected to rise to $35.4 billion from $34.4 billion in 2025. Employment in the sector is also expected to increase to 3.03 million jobs, compared with 2.97 million in 2025.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) also expects tourism revenues to maintain their upward trajectory, rising from $19.9 billion in FY2025/26 to $20.8 billion in FY2026/27, reaching $29.8 billion by FY2030/31.
