Madbouly said the new system represents a key step in improving the quality of tourism services and facilitating procedures for visitors.
Egypt has taken a new step toward modernizing its airport services with the signing of two agreements to manage and operate a newly introduced digital visa-on-arrival system at Cairo International Airport, in preparation for expanding the service to all Egyptian airports.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, and senior officials from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), alongside representatives of the implementing company “SciShield Technology” and service providers the National Bank of Egypt and Banque Misr.
The agreements were signed by Mohamed El-Etreby, CEO of the National Bank of Egypt (NBE); Hesham Okasha, CEO of Banque Misr; and Mostafa Issa, Head of Digital Solutions at SciShield Technology.
Prime Minister Madbouly said the new system represents a key step in improving the quality of tourism services and facilitating procedures for visitors from the moment they arrive, in line with Egypt’s broader digital transformation strategy.
He added that the system aims to reduce congestion at airports, speed up arrival procedures, and enhance the overall visitor experience by replacing the traditional paper visa stamp with a secure electronic process.
Under the new system, travelers eligible for a visa on arrival will be able to apply through self-service kiosks at airports, the official online platform, or a mobile application, where payment will be made electronically and a QR-coded visa will be issued for verification at passport control.
The system also allows passengers to obtain the visa up to 48 hours before arrival or through travel agencies, with Cairo International Airport scheduled to begin full operation of the system in August ahead of a phased rollout across all Egyptian airports.
