Egypt has announced a new natural gas discovery in the Nile Delta, with estimated production of around 50 million cubic feet per day, following successful drilling of the Nidoco N-2 exploration well in the West Abu Madi concession area in Kafr El-Sheikh governorate.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said the well was drilled by rig EDC 56 in shallow waters about 10 meters deep, approximately 3 kilometers offshore.
The concession is operated by Eni in partnership with BP.
The ministry noted that the well was drilled from onshore using advanced directional drilling techniques, which helped reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.
It added that the well is located less than 2 kilometers from existing production facilities, enabling rapid tie-in to the national gas network within weeks and supporting early production, which will enhance investment efficiency.
The discovery reflects efforts to maximize the use of existing infrastructure, boost domestic gas output, and strengthen supply to the local market. It also underscores the continued success of international partners, particularly Eni, in exploration activities across its concession areas in Egypt.
