Egypt, Morocco sign cooperation agreements to deepen bilateral ties

Egypt and Morocco signed a number of cooperation documents on Monday aimed at strengthening relations across several sectors of mutual interest.

The signed documents included a cooperation protocol in the industrial sector, as well as a memorandum of understanding to enhance bilateral investment ties between Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development.

The two sides also signed an agreement on mutual administrative assistance in customs matters, along with an agreement between the Egyptian and Moroccan governments on avoiding double taxation and preventing income tax evasion.

The package of agreements further included memorandums of understanding covering housing, electricity, new and renewable energy, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, as well as tourism cooperation. An agreement was also signed to promote cooperation in sports and youth, alongside an executive program for collaboration in the cultural field.

In a related step, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on combating desertification, in addition to another agreement between Egypt’s Institute for Diplomatic Studies and Morocco’s Diplomatic Academy.

Finally, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and his Moroccan counterpart Aziz Akhannouch signed the minutes of the first meeting of the Egyptian-Moroccan Coordination and Follow-up Committee.
