Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, announced the increase of fuel prices expected later this year will be the last for 2025.

Speaking during a meeting with editors-in-chief of newspapers and news websites, Badawi explained that if the new increase is implemented in October, fuel prices will remain unchanged in December.

“The upcoming hike will be final, and there will be no further increases this year,” he stressed.

The minister noted that the gas Egypt imports from Israel is currently cheaper than imports from other markets, making it a competitive option for the country.

At the same time, he acknowledged that lower domestic production of gas and petroleum has been driven by weaker exploration efforts, not by limited natural resources.

Badawi emphasized Egypt’s strategic position, saying that the Eastern Mediterranean discoveries hold immense opportunities for the oil and gas sector.

He underlined that international companies operating in the Mediterranean prefer gas exploration projects in the region, given Egypt’s infrastructure and logistical advantages.

On domestic issues, the minister confirmed that full investigations are underway regarding the recent fuel adulteration incidents, particularly in the gasoline sector.

He also reassured that Egypt maintains sufficient capacity to cover the needs of all state sectors without facing repeated shortages.

Badawi explained that Egypt’s fertilizer supply is closely tied to natural gas availability. While regional conflicts, including the Israel–Iran war, had an impact on supplies, Egypt has managed to absorb the shocks and maintain a balanced supply chain.

Highlighting the importance of natural gas to Egypt’s energy mix, the minister noted that around 60 % of the gas produced locally is directed to electricity generation.

The minister also pointed out that Egypt’s abundant geographic resources and active petroleum sector present wide opportunities for further investment.

The government’s focus, he stressed, remains on ensuring stability in fuel pricing, advancing exploration, and leveraging Egypt’s role as a regional energy hub.
