The telecommunications sector in Egypt stands as one of the main pillars of the country’s ongoing digital transformation in recent years, forming the backbone of the knowledge economy and smart services. This is achieved through creating effective mechanisms for receiving and resolving complaints, obligating mobile and internet service providers to adhere to defined quality standards, and imposing clear penalties for any shortcomings. NTRA has also launched interactive platforms, such as the My NTRA application, which enables citizens to check all mobile lines registered under their names, measure network quality, compare offers, and submit and track complaints, thereby enhancing transparency and giving users greater control over their services.
In its role as a key driver of development, NTRA has been at the forefront of introducing the latest technologies to the Egyptian market. This includes the launch of 5G mobile services, representing a qualitative leap in internet speed and latency, paving the way for smart city applications, the Internet of Things (IoT), and advanced solutions in sectors such as transportation, healthcare, and education. NTRA prepared the necessary technical and regulatory infrastructure for the service in cooperation with mobile operators, ensuring effective coverage in key areas, such as the North Coast and New Alamein City. NTRA also introduced embedded SIM (eSIM) technology, which allows users to activate their mobile lines digitally without the need for a physical SIM card, providing greater flexibility and speed in managing services and switching networks. Additionally, the WiFi Calling service enables users to make and receive high-quality calls over any WiFi network, ensuring improved coverage in locations where mobile signals are weak, such as inside buildings or in remote areas.
Moreover, NTRA’s role is not limited to regulation and technology, it has also ensured an active presence in major events, such as the New Alamein Festival, coordinating with telecom operators to provide visitors with 5G services, enabling them to enjoy seamless connectivity and advanced digital services. This effort has contributed to showcasing Egypt as a fully integrated cultural and tourist destination.
With the ongoing expansion of digital services, NTRA continues to develop regulatory frameworks, enhance user protection, and stimulate innovation, solidifying Egypt’s position as a regional hub for telecommunications and technology.
