The Chinese Embassy in Cairo announced that Chinese green energy company LONGi has recently signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Egypt’s United Energy Group to collaborate on establishing a 20-megawatt hybrid solar power generation system in Egypt.
In a statement released on Monday, the embassy noted that the project aims to provide stable and clean electricity to support the utilization of oil and gas resources, while also promoting the use of low-carbon, local green energy sources.
Upon completion, the project is expected to generate approximately 24,800 megawatt-hours of electricity annually—enough to meet the needs of over 6,000 Egyptian households.
The new system is anticipated to reduce oil consumption by about 70% and cut carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 14,000 tons each year.
This represents a significant advancement in energy efficiency and emission reduction compared to conventional oil-based power generation methods.
The embassy emphasized that this partnership aims to enhance green development in Egypt’s oil and gas sector while showcasing the technical capabilities and practical expertise of Chinese companies in sustainable energy.
It also offers a practical model for accelerating the global transition of traditional energy industries toward cleaner alternatives.
