Egypt’s Customs Authority Clears $27.2 Billion Worth of Goods by Mid-May

 Egypt’s Customs Authority has released goods worth approximately $27.2 billion from the beginning of 2025 until mid-May, according to Sherif El-Kilany, Deputy Minister of Finance for Tax Policies.

El-Kilany made the announcement during a meeting by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, attended by Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, and Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance. He noted that the released goods included $11 billion worth of production inputs and raw materials, and $6.8 billion worth of strategic goods.
 
During the meeting, the Prime Minister reviewed the progress of the reform plan for the Advance Cargo Information (ACI) system, following coordination efforts with relevant authorities. El-Kilany explained that the total value of goods released—including petroleum products—from January 2024 to mid-May 2025 amounted to $105.3 billion.
 
This figure includes $43.5 billion worth of production inputs and raw materials, in addition to $26.4 billion worth of strategic goods.
 
Kamel El-Wazir emphasized the importance of the ongoing development of the customs system and reducing the time required for customs clearance, particularly for essential production inputs. These improvements are vital for boosting productivity and manufacturing activity across various sectors.
