This marks the final well in BP’s four-well drilling campaign as part of the West Nile Delta project.
British Petroleum (BP) has successfully completed drilling operations at the Fayoum-5 exploratory well, located in the North Alexandria offshore concession.
This marks the final well in BP’s four-well drilling campaign as part of the West Nile Delta project.
The operations led to the discovery of four potential gas reservoirs from the Messinian age, at a depth of approximately 2,860 meters, with a total net sand thickness of 50 meters.
The newly discovered reserves are expected to be connected to the existing onshore facilities of the BP-operated West Nile Delta project.
Fayoum-5 represents BP’s second discovery in the area, following the successful drilling of the King-2 gas well in the North King Mariout offshore concession.
The successful discovery of Fayoum-5—following BP’s recent success with the King-2 well and the start of production from the second phase of the Raven development—demonstrates BP’s ongoing commitment to investing in Egypt, according to a statement by Nader Zaki, BP’s Regional President for the Middle East and North Africa.
The West Nile Delta (WND) project encompasses multiple gas fields located off Egypt’s northern coast, within the North Alexandria and West Mediterranean Deepwater concessions.
The project’s final development phase, the Raven field, commenced production in early 2021.
This phase involved the development of eight offshore wells, extending 65 km from the shore, at depths ranging from 550 to 700 meters.
BP, the project operator, holds an 82.75% stake, while Harbour Energy owns the remaining 17.25%.
