Minister of Civil Aviation, Sameh El-Hefny, announced that Egypt plans to expand Cairo International Airport's capacity from 28 million to 40 million passengers annually, in the plenary session of the Senate.

El-Hefny shared updates on Egypt’s efforts to modernize its airspace and aviation sector. Key initiatives include aligning with international standards to attract more air traffic, upgrading radar networks, enhancing airport services to meet global benchmarks is also a central focus.

Minister El-Hefny emphasized the role of charter flight incentive programs in increasing tourist arrivals. These initiatives not only support the tourism industry but also benefit related sectors, including hotels, tourist facilities, and ground transportation, driving economic growth and creating job opportunities.

He reaffirmed the strategic importance of Egypt's aviation sector as a matter of national security, highlighting EgyptAir’s role in managing evacuation flights during crises.

Despite challenges, EgyptAir has maintained profitability across its divisions, and its membership in the Star Alliance underscores its global standing and service quality.

Civil airports were described as critical gateways to Egypt, pivotal for advancing economic development, especially in tourism and industry.

Since 2015, the state has constructed and upgraded numerous airports as part of the New Republic’s vision, aligning with sustainable development goals.

El-Hefny underscored the importance of private sector partnerships in airport management, citing the successful model of Marsa Alam Airport.

To further explore this approach, the ministry has enlisted an international consultancy firm to conduct a strategic study on potential private sector involvement.

He clarified that this shift aims to enhance efficiency and service quality, complementing current management rather than indicating any deficiencies.

The Minister concluded by reaffirming the commitment to achieving excellence across Egypt’s aviation infrastructure, with gradual implementation of private sector collaborations guided by the study’s recommendations.
