Gas production from the two new wells is expected to start in February 2025.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced that BP has successfully completed the drilling and well completion of two additional gas production wells at the Raven Field in the Mediterranean.
Currently, offshore installation activities are underway to connect the wells to the existing production networks in the Mediterranean, with production expected to begin soon.
Gas production from the two new wells is expected to start in February 2025.
Following the successful completion of drilling at Raven, the drilling operations has now moved to the King exploration area, operated by BP in the Mediterranean.
The exploration aims to locate natural gas in the Lower Miocene layer, with the reservoir expected to be reached by the end of February 2025.
The King exploration area is strategically located near BP’s existing facilities and subsea pipelines within the West Nile Delta project.
The exploratory well will be connected to the existing production facilities, enabling additional gas volumes to be added to production as part of the ministry's strategy to enhance local production.
The exploratory drilling activities in the King area are part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources' ongoing efforts over the past six months to boost offshore drilling operations in the Mediterranean.
The region has witnessed heightened drilling activity, including Chevron's commencement of drilling at the Khanjar-1 well in the western Mediterranean, ExxonMobil's drilling at the Nefertari-1 well, BP's successful development of two wells at the Raven Field, and Eni's resumption of drilling at the Zohr field earlier this month.
