During an official visit to Italy, Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, inaugurated the Egyptian-Italian “RoRo” line, a significant step toward enhancing trade between the two countries.
The new line connects Damietta Port to Trieste, reducing shipping times from six days to just 2.5 days, significantly boosting Egypt's export competitiveness in European markets.
El-Wazir emphasized that the "RoRo" line serves as a sustainable bridge between Egypt and Italy, aligning with Egypt’s strategy to become a regional logistics hub.
The project is expected to open new export markets, especially for agricultural goods, and create over 2,000 jobs while lowering shipping costs.
On the sidelines, El-Wazir met Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini to discuss cooperation in transportation, including potential Italian involvement in Egypt's high-speed rail network and rail system upgrades.
Salvini announced plans to visit Egypt in early 2025 to deepen collaboration further.
Additionally, discussions with Danieli, a leading Italian steel manufacturer, revealed plans for a seamless pipe production plant in Egypt, underlining Italy's growing interest in investing in the country's industrial sector.
The developments highlight strengthened Egyptian-Italian relations and mutual efforts to enhance trade and industrial cooperation.
