In a significant step towards transforming Egypt into a regional logistics hub, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly addressed the media following the ceremony of the first flight of the Egyptian-Italian Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) line.

The launch marks a key milestone in Egypt’s efforts to expand its logistics and trade infrastructure.

One of the primary benefits of the new RoRo line is its ability to transport Egyptian exports to Europe in a fraction of the time previously required, Madbouly said.

This initiative is part of the broader plan to elevate Egypt’s position as a regional logistics center, strategically linking Europe and Africa.

The government is focused on providing the necessary capabilities to foster this transformation.

The expansion of Egypt's port infrastructure is also a crucial part of this transformation. A key development in this area is the Tahya Misr 1 container terminal at Damietta Port, which is undergoing a major expansion to accommodate increased trade volumes.

This terminal is set to play a pivotal role in the operations of the RoRo line and in the broader goal of boosting Egypt's logistics capacity.

The new Ro-Ro line aims to connect Egypt with Italy via a green corridor, transforming Egypt into a regional hub for transportation, logistics, and transit trade. It also aims to open up export markets for Egyptian agricultural goods in the Italian and European markets, thereby benefiting the economy.

The rapid maritime transport line will allow the delivery of perishable agricultural products between Egypt and Italy, facilitating their transfer from Damietta Port to Trieste Port and vice versa in about a day and a half at most.

Refrigerated trucks and containers will be provided for the service in both countries, with the line’s capacity amounting to 420 trucks.
