Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, emphasized Egypt's commitment to supporting the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) in achieving its objectives, enhancing member states' capabilities, and sharing expertise.
Farouk's remarks came during a meeting with IOFS Director General Berik Aryn on Wednesday, held on the sidelines of the World Food Summit in Abu Dhabi. The discussion focused on strengthening cooperation between Egypt and the IOFS in the agricultural sector.
The minister highlighted Egypt's efforts to bolster food security, noting the challenges posed by global disruptions to food supply chains.
He added that Egypt has achieved self-sufficiency in several key crops and exports surplus production to over 160 international markets.
For his part, Aryn outlined key IOFS initiatives aimed at addressing food security challenges across member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Both parties agreed on the importance of sustained collaboration between Egypt and the IOFS, underscoring the need for innovative solutions to enhance agricultural development and secure sustainable food systems in the Islamic world.
