The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) to further their collaboration in areas of green transition, training, and marketing.

This partnership will promote consistent engagement between both parties and facilitate information and expertise exchange.

Additionally, it will enhance the marketing of the Suez Canal’s maritime and logistics services, support ongoing development projects, and strengthen safety and environmental standards by reducing harmful carbon emissions.

Chairman of the SCA, Osama Rabie, affirmed that the canal remains dedicated to providing seamless navigation and logistics services, maintaining active communication with international maritime organizations to ensure the sustainability of global supply chains.

In a meeting with ICS Secretary, Guy Platten, Rabie discussed ways to bolster cooperation, particularly given the current challenges in the Red Sea region and their negative impact on global supply chain sustainability.

He noted that recent security concerns have caused many shipping companies to seek alternative routes, which lack the Suez Canal’s safety features and come with higher operational and risk-related costs due to extended travel times and inadequate navigational support.

To address these challenges, the SCA has implemented a comprehensive strategy to provide integrated logistics and maritime services, introducing a range of previously unavailable services to meet the needs of vessels in both regular and emergency circumstances.
