Japanese Ambassador to Egypt, Oka Hiroshi, announced plans to activate cooperation between the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in the areas of training and technical studies in the coming period.

During a meeting with Chairman of SCA, Osama Rabie, to discuss collaboration in training and green transformation, Hiroshi expressed his eagerness to enhance cooperation with the Japanese Shipowners’ Association.

He highlighted the aim to discuss mechanisms for boosting cooperation, as well as transit and marketing policies.

Rabie noted that the Suez Canal has introduced new services to meet the needs and requirements of transiting ships, both in normal and emergency conditions. These services include ship maintenance and repair, pollution control, maritime rescue, and more.

SCA’s chairman also emphasized the Canal’s commitment to establishing direct communication channels with all partners and clients to optimize services for the maritime community, especially in light of unprecedented security challenges in the Red Sea region.

Rabie further explained that the Suez Canal has taken significant steps toward green transformation as part of its strategy to become the Green Canal by 2030.

The chairman expressed his eagerness to strengthen cooperation and partnerships, leveraging the close relations between Egypt and Japan to drive joint projects with the Suez Canal in areas such as investment, training, and sustainable development.
